Innovative Farmer Receives Best Farmer's Award at the State Symposium
Anil Roy of Baniyal village of Malda under
World Vision’s Malda Area Development Programme in West Bengal received the best farmer's award on
at the State Level Symposium in Kolkata organized by “Banglar SRI” in Collaboration with the
Directorate of Rice Development (DRD) Patna.
Anil Roy received the award from Mr. Biswanath Sinha (Senior Programme
Officer, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, Mumbai) in the presence of Mr. Narendranath De,
(Agriculture Minister, Govt of West Bengal) and Mr.Subash Naskar, Minsiter Incharge - Irrigation
& Water ways Department, Govt of West Bengal).
Anil adopted the system of rice intensification (SRI) for rice cultivation
in 2008. He was the first farmer to succeed with the SRI and doubled the harvest. He also promoted
SRI in his village successfully and encouraged other farmers to adopt this system of rice
cultivation .
Receiving the
best farmer’s award at the State level has encouraged him to further expand his cultivation and
business and promote this new agriculture system in his village.
More than 500 farmers and 55 different NGOs participated in the State
Level Symposium on SRI organized by "Banglar SRI” in collaboration with (BCKV) Bidhan Chandra Kishi
Vishwavidhalaya and (DRD) Director of Rice Development Patna and supported by SDTT at Kolkata, State
Youth Centre on 12th April, 2010.
The farmers were
felicitated by the Banglar SRI and PRASARI Kolkata for promoting this innovative system of rice
cultivation in their respective community and were encouraged to take this forward for better
yield. |
