Well-known Mumbaikars read out inspirational stories to children
Mumbai, April 22, 2009: World Vision India, a child-focused, Christian relief and development organization, organized a book-reading session, as part of the Global Campaign for Education’s Big Read initiative. As part of the Big Read, World Vision invited Pamela Chopra and Pooja Bedi, to read out stories to children supported by World Vision from the Global Big Read book, which is a collection of inspiring stories. The book-reading session was held in Sainath Shikshan Sanstha in Ghatkopar West, Mumbai.
Pledging her support to Big Read, Eminent Socialite, Mrs. Pamela Chopra, said, “I am extremely happy to be a part of World Vision India’s Big Read initiative, as I have always appreciated their work in the area of holistic child development. It is important for all of us to work towards ensuring that no child is denied the access to education. An event like this goes a long way in reinforcing this and it is the responsibility of all of us, the educated and informed citizens to ensure that children are encouraged to pursue their education, which will empower them in the long run.
Commenting on Big Read Initiative, Actress Pooja Bedi, said, “I am glad to be associated with Big Read, an initiative that focuses on the most susceptible lot of the world, our children. It is critical for parents across all sectors to understand that education is the one aspect that can make a significant difference to the value of our lives. Given that they do not form a part of the vote bank, the responsibility of representing issues affecting them, lies with us. I am sure, if all of us stand united, education for all disadvantaged children, will cease to remain a distant dream.”
More than 500 children from the communities and schools in Mumbai participated in the event. The participants endorsed their support through a signature campaign and these would be sent to the President of India.
