Caught up in the streets of Kolkatta, Samida never had a joyful or even a secure childhood. However, streets are the only "home" the family knows - a world of exploitation, hunger, violence and abuse.

Living in abject poverty, future held nothing promising for little Samida. All she could think of is to provide an extra earning hand when she grows up. When children her age dream of becoming a teacher, doctor or pilot, Samida just dreams of a day when she would be in school.

However thanks to support of people like you, Samida today is in school. She has big dreams for her future. Indeed, she has discovered the joy of childhood.

World Vision's special programmes for children who live on the streets offers them better life by providing them with education, shelter, food, life skills, and above all, a joyful childhood. They are also provided non-formal education before integrating them into regular schools.

We also provide these children with education kits, school books, uniforms and study tours to encourage them to continue their education.
