Ankit, from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, dreamed of joining the armed forces since Class 8. With minimal resources, his path was uncertain. World Vision India supported him with a bicycle, school bag, and solar light—making school accessible and study possible. Though he faced setbacks after Class 12, Ankit didn’t give up. In 2023, he succeeded in joining the Indian Air Force. For him, wearing the uniform symbolises honour and stability. “World Vision India was like a second family,” he says. LEADING BY LEARNING

Pavitra, a determined 19-year-old, is a beacon of hope in her family. Sponsored by World Vision India, she is currently pursuing her BBA and has successfully cleared her first semester with impressive grades. Before receiving support, Pavitra faced the harsh reality of being barred from exams due to unpaid college fees, a challenge that threatened to derail her dreams of higher education. But Pavitra’s determination has always been stronger than the obstacles in her path. In addition to her studies, she works as a teacher at Life Skill Training (LST), World Vision India’s training program that helps young people in the community develop practical skills for life and work. Balancing her role as a teacher with her studies was no easy feat, but Pavitra embraced the challenge with grit and perseverance. Now, Pavitra stands as a powerful symbol of resilience. Her journey is one of courage and hope, not just for herself, but for her entire family. She proves that with the right support, dreams that once seemed impossible can become reality. Her success has inspired others in her community to believe that they too can overcome obstacles and achieve their own dreams.

SMALL START, BIG CHANGE

Sivasingaram, a devoted father to Nagamani and Harchand, faced the daily challenge of caring for his children, both of whom are living with mental disabilities. Determined to provide for them, he accepted two goats from World Vision India while continuing to work tirelessly as a daily wage labourer. Over time, the goats multiplied into a thriving herd of ten. When two goats began causing trouble, he sold them and reinvested in four more, creating a sustainable source of income.

Inspired by his success, Sivasingaram now plans to secure his children’s future by depositing his earnings into their bank accounts. Despite the challenges that arose due to a consanguineous (blood-relative) marriage, Sivasingaram’s resilience turned two goats into a small-scale business — bringing stability, dignity, and hope to his family.

STITCH BY STITCH

After receiving a sewing machine with support from World Vision India, I began stitching clothes and taking orders. I approached a nightwear shop, collected leftover fabric in bulk, and used it to create new garments. Inspired by my efforts, some of my neighbours have also started similar businesses.

Now, I earn ₹325 per day, which enables me to care for my household, support my children and my elderly mother-in-law, and contribute to my family’s well-being. Thanks to the intervention of World Vision India, I am happy and able to lead my family towards a better future.

THE TURNING POINT

Puspita, from West Bengal, underwent a significant transformation through World Vision India's care group programmes. At 19 years old, she tragically lost her first child due to a lack of awareness and initial negligence. At the time, she resisted participating in the care groups and dismissed their guidance.

However, during her second pregnancy, the care group intervened and provided the essential healthcare education she needed. Now 21, Puspita has a healthy nine-month-old child who weighs 7 kg and has a MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference — a tool used to assess nutritional status) of 14.1 cm, indicating good health.

Once skeptical, Puspita is now an active and committed member of the care group. She passionately promotes the importance of maternal healthcare, nutritional supplements, balanced diets, and regular check-ups within her community.

In Kandakur, the story of Swaroopa and Samson unfolds — a family grappling with unforeseen challenges. Samson’s debilitating accident left the family in distress, relying solely on one income. World Vision India’s livelihood programme stepped in, providing a buffalo that became a lifeline.

Now, with income from dairy, Swaroopa sustains her family, educates her children, tends to her husband’s medical needs, and even saves for the future. This success story stands as a testament to the transformative power of well-placed support.

Thanks to donors, five lives — including three children — have found renewed hope and stability. Your continued support ensures more stories like Swaroopa and Samson’s emerge, bringing light to lives in need.

GIRLS GO BACK TO SCHOOL

Chandana and Lahari, two school-going students, faced daily challenges reaching their government school, located 2.5 kilometres from their village. With no reliable bus service, they walked 2 kilometres each day, often arriving late and being marked absent.

Through the support of World Vision India, they received bicycles - a simple yet life-changing gift that transformed their daily routine. Now, by cycling 2 kilometres, they reach school on time and no longer miss classes.

This success story is a powerful reminder of how collaborative efforts can turn obstacles into opportunities.

The goal is to ensure the child’s well-being even after our work in that area comes to an end. It’s more than a relationship with just one child – it's an investment in their entire community. This partnership helps create a better future for the child and helps make India a safer and more nurturing place for all children.
