Uber Mumbai and World Vision India to provide drought relief

Mumbai, 2nd May 2016: Are you residing in Mumbai? Are you concerned about the drought situation which has affected 330 million people in the country? Are you willing to contribute to the ongoing relief work in the affected areas? If your answer is a yes to all three, Uber has decided to pitch in to make giving easier and faster. The transportation giant has joined hands with World Vision India for supporting the ongoing relief work in Maharashtra's drought-affected villages.

Uber has launched a week-long campaign to generate funds, which in turn will be used by World Vision India in their drought relief response. The NGO is the implementation partner, and will provide dry ration and water to over 100 affected households in the state. The campaign enables fund collection through an online campaign and on-demand collection of cheques via the Uber app. Right on the heels of the Maharashtra Day, Uber's campaign runs from today to 7th May. Riders will be able to see a new view called UberAID from 11 AM to 4 PM daily. Through this view, riders will not be able to request for a ride, but they will be able to call for a cab to come and pick up their cheques. The cheques collected in favour of World Vision India will go towards the NGO's drought relief for Maharashtra. Uber has also created a dedicated page https://www.worldvision.in/uber/ for riders to also make online payments toward this effort.

"There are over 1800 villages across Maharashtra that are facing acute water scarcity. It is a growing concern which needs immediate attention. Through our campaign UberAID in partnership with World Vision India, we aim to provide relief to over 100 households. We've made it easier for contributors by setting up an online campaign and working with our driver-partners to collect cheques at their doorstep. We urge Mumbaikars to be a part of this campaign and help make a difference. A small donation of Rs. 500-1000 can go a long way if we combine our efforts and give back to Maharashtra."
