Hyundai Steel and World Vision India installs solar powered Street Lights in Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu

 * 101 solar street lights were installed in four villages of Sriperumbadur block of Kanchipuram District 

* 1000 families benefitted from the activity.
 

Sriperumbudur (Tamilnadu), 20 February, 2019: In line with the vision of creating safer and happy villages, Hyundai Steel and World Vision India have jointly installed 101 Solar Street Lights across four villages in the Sriperumbudur panchayat.   This initiative is part of the Happy Safe Village Project, Tamil Nadu which aims at protection and safety to the communities in these villages. This Solar Street Lamps will help to reduce the carbon footprint. 60 volunteers from various universities across the Republic of Korea were involved in mapping the villages for the solar lamp installation process. 

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Chae Bong Suk, President- Hyundai Steel India said, “At Hyundai, we are guided by the philosophy to pursue social, economic and ecological development for our planet.  More than 1.3 billion people in the world do not have access to electricity. After the sun sets, the common areas in the villages are plunged into darkness, and people find it unsafe to step outside their homes. To overcome this, we came up with the initiative of installing solar streetlights in the villages.

“We thank the elected representatives of the four villages for extending their support in the installation of the solar street lamps” said Mr. Sony Thomas, Director- Resource Management, World Vision India. He further added that, “By providing these solar powered lights, we are bringing clean, efficient, renewable, and affordable illumination to the rural areas, thereby making a positive impact”.

“Happy Safe Village Project’ implemented by World Vision India cover areas of education, health and environment. The intervention includes improving the infrastructure in the government schools, enhancing the health seeking behavior among villagers and providing an environment for children to protect them from pollution, harm and accidents.

Mrs. Dhanalakshmi, Deputy Collector & District Social Welfare Officer, Kanchipuram district and Mr. Durai Velu, Headmaster, Adi Dravidar Welfare Grama Panchayat School, Kiloy, Sriperumbudur were the guests of honour during the community handing over program held today.
